Weekend Review: The place we now call home!

The day finally came!
Say hello to the new place we now call home!

We spent the whole weekend working on the walls, fixing holes, priming and painting. We got mostly all we wanted done, in just TWO days! It was unbelievable. Thank God for good friends and family who helped us already through this process, I don't know what we would have done without them.

It feels great to have people like that to rely on.

Here are some quick shots we took that day...(the sun was in my eyes on this one!)

Here is a shot of part of our backyard.

And our front porch view! Isn't it just beautiful?

There is still so much to do.. so many things to fix, but I know in time and piece by piece the house will come together just as we dreamed. I know nothing can be done all at once (even though that would be great) But, we're going to work on each room at a time (really just the bathrooms, kitchen, and basement)

I believe that by the end of the next summer the house will be looking fabulous, I can't wait.

I'm saving the inside pictures until all the furniture is in, and painting is 100% complete, so stay tuned on that!

An exciting Friday!

Hello Friday!

Friday's are usually a happy day. You know, end of the work week, beginning to your fun and exciting weekend, and time to relax and let the stress of the work week behind you.

Well, this Friday is probably, the most exciting Friday that I have had yet..(except that day before my wedding)

Tomorrow, I get to change my address! Yippee!

These last 7 months have gone so fast and slow, all at the same time. I'm ready to finally make this change.

I write this with a smile on my face.

It really hasn't quite hit me yet that I am about to be on my own...It will soon, and I'm sure it will be a BIG smack in my face. I guess I just have so much going on, so much to pack, paint, fix, unpack, the list goes on, that i just haven't let things settle in.. my brain is too scattered right now.

But, in two weeks, things will have settled down. We will be unpacked (hopefully) and getting into our new routines, on our own. Such an exciting time.

Want a peek at our furniture we have been working on the past 3 nights?! Night 1 consisted of staining. Night 2 and 3 consisted of putting the finally clear coat on them. We will have one more night of the final waxing to finish them off. Then they will be moved to their new home!

Here is our TV stand, and part of our end tables for the living room.

This is our office desk. It's in 3 parts. Together they make one beautiful L shaped desk!!

I will be SUPER busy this weekend, but I'll give all the details on Monday morning!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Eventually, we all move forward

Everyday you work towards something.... whether it be getting a good grade when your in school, to passing that big exam to get you into college... to graduating.. to finding a job that will help you start a career... to finding your one true love to marry... have kids.... get a house...

This is life.

Everyday we work hard... we have dreams. Everyday it brings you closer to the things you want the most.

Eventually, we all move forward.

Well, in two days I am about to move forward into a part of my life that I have been waiting ever so patiently for, moving out.

Finally, after being together for over 5 years, married for 7 months, Ryan and I are getting our own home!

Our very own place to call home, begin our lives together, and move forward.

It can be scary, exciting, so many emotions piled into such a short hectic time. I have all of those feelings running through my head.

Sometimes, things happen in a way we never imagined they would. Sudden changes, but in the end, they always turn out for the best, in ways we never imagined. Everything has a reason for happening the way it does.

I might be a little absent in these next few days, as I begin to get really really busy painting, fixing, and moving into my new home.

Don't worry, I will have lots of pics and details to tell once I can sit down for a minute. I'm as excited about moving as being able to share this moment with you all as well.

A DIY Project!

Over the weekend I decided to become your regular old Martha Stewart.

I think I did a pretty damn good job, considering I have never (ever ever) used a sewing machine in my life. I got the hang of it after a bit.

I only wanted to punt the thing a few times.. but we made mends (harhar, get it?)

Anywho... here is what I decided to make.. and I will show you a step by step so maybe you too can make these! They're obviously easy if I could do it!

My first project was a plastic bag holder to hang up and store all the crazy amounts of plastic bags you get in a weeks time. I do re-use them a lot.

1. Pick out your fabric, and some either ribbon or strap to go with it
2. Cut it about 22 inches wide, by whatever length you want it to be.
3. Cut 2 pieces of elastic about 15 inches
4. Fold over your ends of fabric about 1/4 inch and sew just the beginning of the elastic on the end. Pull the elastic out of your way and fold it again another 1/4 inch and sew your ends.

5. Do both ends of the bag this way.

6. Next cut a strap to a length you would like and sew it to the top of the inside of the bag

7. Next, sew your sides shut. Make sure your are doing this inside out, so all your sews are in the inside.

8. After you sew it shut and it's starting to look like a bag get a paper clip and fish your elastic through the hole and pull it tight. You want the top of the bags hole to be bigger then the bottoms, so you can shove them in and only pull one out at a time. Pull the elastic until you reach an appropriate size hole for each. My top was about 7-8 inch diameter, where my bottom was about 3 inches.

9. After you get it to a size you'd like, sew the elastic down (keep it tight!) and shut any seams that still are open.

10. Fix the bunches around the elastic, and you have yourself a plastic bag holder!

My next project was a clothes pin bag to hang on my new clothes line my husband made me! I took a few ideas that I found and put them together to get a look and feel of something I'd like. I made this one, because it can actually hang on the line with me as I put clothes up and slide along the line with me.

First, I choose a canvas bag, because it is much sturdier and weather resistant. It was also water resistant. I used the same straps I picked for the plastic bag holder, that is why my straps were a little more heavy duty. You don't really need heavy duty straps for the plastic bag holder, but to save money I used it for both.

1. I started out my cut using a fold for the bottom of the bag. I then cut a little over how wide I actually wanted my bag. You need to cut about an inch over on each side. Then, I cut my length much longer then where my hole would be, for where I put my straps and a flap for decoration and to close the top.

2. You should have a long rectangle. I used a more square flap for the top. You could cut it however you want, as long as it covers the top of the bag, and leaves room for your straps.

3. I then cut the hole I wanted in the front.

4. Hem all your seams on the side, fold each end about half an inch in and combine together and sew. I also hemmed the hole and the top of my flap. This stuff would definitely fray.

5. This is what I had before I put my straps on.. I know it's not perfect, but I was SO proud of myself!

6. I had cut 2, 8 inch straps to put on the bag. First I cut button holes on the bottom, and hemmed the button holes, because these would fray as well. Sew the straps on the back and good few times, you want it sturdy! Make sure you keep it even, and test out where the strap would land on the front with the button.

7. Lastly, I sewed my buttons on!!

The finished product! I was proud of my creation... I did make it talk to my husband though. Doesn't it look like a face?

Weekend review: Furniture and a trip to Lowes!

This weekend was a busy one, of course, welcome to my life right?

Saturday we finally, after 4 months of waiting got our custom made furniture in! We ordered two end tables and a tv stand for the living room. I had to get a specific size tv stand to fit where it is going perfectly! I also had a custom made L-shaped desk made. It's awesome!

There is an Amish woodworker just ten minutes from our house who builds custom furniture, and beautiful ones at that. He actually uses 19th century barn wood to craft all his furniture, so not only does it look great, but it has a history, how cool is that?

I will definitely have some pics to show you once they are all finished up, we are actually staining them ourselves, which one was cheaper and two is much more fun!

It rained ALL day Sunday, so dreary, but we definitely needed the rain. When it rains I just want to sit in bed all day in my PJ's, watch movies, and be a totally lazy ass. I couldn't do this of course.

We made another trip to Lowes on Sunday to get some more items we need for the house.. (5 days people!)

We are also making ANOTHER trip tonight to get all the paint that we need. Who would have thought that picking out paint would be so damn hard? Maybe it's just me, I am just so indecisive its ridiculous, and I know it.

Sunday night I tried to become Martha Stewart and did a pretty damn good job of getting close. (maybe?) I have been wanting to learn how to sew on a sewing machine, yes, I have never sewn on a machine before, it's a little loco, but I did it, and I got the hang of it after awhile. I was pretty proud of myself.. I have lots of pics and details I can show you.. that will have to be in another post, maybe tomorrow's? To sum it up... I made a clothes pin bag and a plastic trash-bag holder... pretty nifty I'd say. I like them... they may not be perfect, but for my first time, I'll give myself a pat on the back.

This week will be super busy... but I'm ready for it!

Decisions.. Decisions..

So you can see that I gave the blog a little bit of a makeover...

As I was looking around the blog.. figuring out a few changes down the road that might occur, I sat there and thought about my blog title.

I'm still new at this blogging... been doing it about a year now... and of course when I started to blog, I had to just come up with a title to get it going. I did give it a good bit of thoughts... you know, what I would be writing about, and what the blog could turn into. I had no idea really.

It pretty much has stayed within the realms as I thought it would. Just a day to day review of my days, thoughts, visions, interests, hobbies, but most importantly my dreams as I continue to build my life, and everything being so new.

From getting engaged, to my wedding... to now being on the verge of finally getting into our new home. Dreams, and lots of them, and many many more to come!

So, my blog is titled... Life with a dream.... and it's still completely there.. my Life, and the many many dreams I have, but part of me just doesn't feel like the title is complete.

I thought about it yesterday, and wanted to see my readers opinions.. I know you're out there (I have stats people) So leave me a comment on here with what you think about this new title I am proposing.

As much as this blog is about me.. and the things I do... it's now also about Ryan and I.. and our dreams and day to day adventures. Our life together as one, and honestly, I just kind of like this name a little better...

So, here it is, what do you think?

Two Hearts One Dream....

It hasn't quite hit me..

I've been busily preparing for the day that is coming soon...

I've been planning, shopping, organizing, packing, dreaming...

But, it hasn't really hit me yet, that in just over a week, we will finally have our own home.

We lay in bed at night and talk about it. Our hopes and dreams, our visions, our plans to make this house our warm and inviting home. Boy do we talk about it... the conversation always starts as.."You know what I can't wait for?"

I don't know how many times I've heard that line from my excited husband, how many times I've said it myself. They could be the tiniest things... being just us, making a garden, decorating....

But, what I truly can't wait for.... is to start my own life, just the way I planned it. To try and be the most perfect wife I can for my husband, become the women that reflects my own mother, to just live the life I have been patiently waiting for, for 22 years.

Living with my parents for the last 7 months after my wedding has had its up and downs... but more then anything it has given me the time to get ready, mentally especially. This life is all so new, being married, being thrown into the world without a clue as to how it works.

At this moment... I'm scared, anxious, excited... all these feelings mushed up into one. I wonder constantly if we will make it, have enough money to buy food, support ourselves, even after time and time again I sit down and look at wants coming in, to what would be going out, and we'll be just fine. I think it's just the anxiety of something new, something unknown.

We will be just fine...

It seems so silly to have all these feelings about moving out. Leaving my parents, the ones who I have been with day in and day out for over 22 years now.... no longer will I come home to them.. no longer will they be in my life as much as they have been these last 22 years... they've taught me well, and brought me up to what I believe a pretty well rounded gal =) I wouldn't have been able to do it without them... it's a good thing I'm only moving right up the road....(hah!)

It will be different.. it will be new, and exciting. It will be a relief... I am ready to stop living out of boxes.. it's going to be like Christmas morning unpacking, because truthfully, I don't remember half the stuff I have (we have alot)

Next weekend marks the day I get to start to move into my house. We won't be all in right away... there are a few things we have to do (installing lights, moving cabinets, painting) But, we will start to move stuff in slowly, and the following weekend will hopefully (if we're ready) the big move in week, where all the furniture will be moved it.

We have a lot to do... and so little time!

But, that's life isn't it?

3 Big Words....

It's one of those days where I just want to bitch.. bitch.. bitch..

But, I'll save you the agony.

I will say though, that stress, aggravation, annoyance, are all words floating through my mind right now, with a few other ones in there too.

And it's not all about one thing either... it's multiple things.. multiple problems, people, life.. etc.

It's all stressing me out... aggravating me.. and most definitely annoying me.

There... that's all I'm going to say.

I hope that things can just go as planned... go the way that I hope them to go... I guess time will tell.

Until then... this lady is like a ticking time bomb I tell ya.. watch out.

I need a drink to defuse me...

Weekend Review... Car show, painting, sunburn

This weekend was busy of course like every other weekend in my life.. will it ever stop? Probably not.

Friday night I tore down my bedroom set to get ready for a makeover Sunday.

Saturday was spent all day at my dad's business (AG-Industrial Inc) car show that he has every year. It's the Spring Fling, and there is always a free lunch and good sales. It is a tractor dealership, so they have/do it all from sell you the tractor, to fixing it, to having the parts you need, etc.

Here is one of my dads cars that he brought to the show... he just finished this one, isn't she a beauty? From what I know, she's also a pretty rare one too, or at least her insides are. or something like that (hah). But, I'm not an expert.

After the show, I did some sanding on the bedroom furniture, got changed and went out to hang out with one of my girls who was down from Connecticut. It was so nice seeing her... we had dinner and sat around the fire all night.

Sunday I spent all day painting the bedroom set, which will be put into the spare bedroom when we move. It definitely needed a makeover. This bedroom set was actually my aunts before it was mine, and I've had it for a very long time! It was a cream color with gold edging, yes gold, so 70's right? So, I repainted it white.. and it looks like a totally new set.

I also got burnt in the process... I was literally outside in the sun painting, and it was hot yesterday, almost 90. (it's going to be 90 today, hello hot April?) Stupid me didn't think to put sunscreen on.. and I'm totally paying for it. I'll be rubbing apple cider vinegar all over me tonight... did you know that's the best way to heal sunburn and prevent peeling? Yes, it may smell gross, but it works.

That was the gist of my busy weekend....

This week will be just as busy. I have a few last minute things we need to do before we start packing our lives away =)..... 12 days until we move!!!! I just can't believe it is right around the corner...

But, then I can, because I've waited almost 7 months (patiently) to move into my home... so baby, bring it on!

Welcome home soldier

Guess what this is?

Yes, if you remember, I wrote a post way back.. 7 months ago, stating that I would wear this band, day in and day out until the return of my brother in law who was stationed over in Afghanistan.

And I did, I never took it off once, for anything.

Until today.

I'll still wear it of course.. there are still so many soldiers still out there fighting for our country.

What a long and hard 7 months it has been... but he is now home, safe and sound in the arms of his family!

Thank you for your service Greg!

Welcome home soldier.
