Doomsday Prepper

Have you watched this show yet on the National Geographic Channel?

It's a little bit obsessing for me and my husband.

Maybe it's because we have a deep down urge to be a doomsday prepper. I know CRAZY right?

Not really.

There are SO MANY things that could happen these days, from natural disasters that keep popping up, to an all out war, aka nuclear, power surges or electro magnetic pulses, to a pandemic. (Ever watch the movie Contagion? It'll open your eyes to that possibility.) How about an economic collapse? You name it, it's a possibility.

Take a look at the Doomsday Dashboard... here is a tid-bit on this..
"The Doomsday Preppers are ready for a variety of cataclysmic disasters that could mean the end of the world as we know it. But which end-of-the-world scenario are we all really worried about? Using Twitter, we are mining the chatter to see what is at the forefront of the public’s collective consciousness."

So, what do we do? Prepare? Spend our whole lives being ready for the day that may or may not come?

Nah, we're not that crazy, like some of the people on that show who dedicate their lives to solely prepping for the end of the world. Seems like a waste of a life to me. But, it might not be a bad idea to have a few things prepared, and ready if shit was to hit the fan.

Here's a few items worth having on hand (found this online, with my inputs).. just in case the world ends tomorrow... or the next day.
  1. Water- 1 Gallon per person in your group per day (There are lots of water purifying systems out there, invest in one!)
  2. Food (LOTS OF IT, the more the better. Canned food, etc)
  3. Bleach- 1 Drop in a gallon of drinking water will purify it and this can be done before or after you boil it.
  4. Ham Radio- if the power goes or communication is lost, this radio will allow you to stay in contact with other survivors.
  5. Precious Metals (Not sure what this is for??)
  6. Knife- A good hunting knife that has a saw on one side
  7. Backpack- A good solid one that will distribute the weight evenly in case you need to leave your residence or hunt for food. (This is called a bug-out bag)
  8. Maps of your neighborhood marking all the key locations and exits and points that could be safe. (Probably good if you live in the city)
  9. Flashlights and batteries
  10. Guns and Ammo (You never know if you'll have to hunt your own food, or protect your family, scary to think about, but it's true)
I do have to say I already (or the husband) already have some of the items listed, as I think a lot of people do too. It's the extra you have to take care of. Having an adequate amount of supplies and food will help a lot. Also, know your options for a way out.

Luckily where I live it is pretty secluded. I won't have to worry too much about riots that could happen in larger cities.... but there is always the possibility of people making there way into the country side. Whatever happens, I want to be a little prepared. Not to the extreme that some of these people go, although an underground bunker would be sweet.

In today's society... anything is possible.

When we finally move out... we will start to prepare for whatever may come our way.

Will you be ready?

Amberlee
